After the excitement of the summer months, we moved into September. September is traditionally our Awards Night month, so there is much reviewing of the last 12 months and excitement as staff nominate for the various awards, all culminating in a night where we recognise and celebrate all our cadets achievements.
The month however started with a big achievement for FS O'Connell. He was put forward for the rank of Cadet Warrant Officer, and after a nerve-racking Wing Board, in front of the Wing Commander and the Wing Warrant Officer, he was promoted and presented with those highly coveted tapes. Well done to the new CWO O'Connell.
Now we dont normally post all our certificates here, but this time we are posting two of the cadets receiving their EFA (Essential First Aid) certificates. This also comes with the Blue First Aid badge and is their first step in what has proved to be a really important life skill. Every year, we see the real benefits of this subject as cadets have made a difference to the outcomes in their families and communities. Well done to Cadet Milburn and Oliveira and to all our cadets with first aid qualifications.
Awards Night proved to be a very busy day, with a member of staff and four cadets supporting the European HADO Championships at Warwick Arts Centre, assisting with checking in visitors, escorting teams to their matches, handing out goody bags etc, with some cadets also working with the media team. HADO is a physical sport using head-mounted displays and armband sensors to wield energy balls and shields on a real world court. This was an exciting day and a sport the Squadron are keen to try.
Our Awards Night is going to have its own write-up but suffice to say the excitement and energy of the night is what it is all about. I'm not going to give more away, except read that article and see the pictures of all our winners. A taster pic below.
We also had another new Intake this month, which has given us some logistical problems, but its a very nice problem to have. We do have a new Intake in January, so watch out for that.
We finished the month by hosting a Bronze Radio Course for the Wing, with 18 cadets and 3 members of staffs achieving the Bronze. That included 3 of ours, so well done Cadets Corcoran, Bhogal and Milburn. It's always pleasing to see the number of badges on our cadets brassards increase.
