Gold at the Palace for 2286 Air Cadets

It's best dressed and pressed at 2286 (Coventry Arden) Squadron RAFAC recently, as three of Team 2286 visited Buckingham Palace for their triumphant Gold Duke of Edinburgh's Award presentation. Flying Officer Subhaan Sheikh, Civilian Instructor Patrycja Maruszewska and Airman Courtney Mobbs enjoyed the hospitality of the Palace, and got to discuss their experiences throughout the Award - all three having completed all three levels of the Award - with HRH the Duke of Edinburgh Prince Edward and special guests.

Throughout their Award, Subhaan, Courtney and Patrycja had enjoyed getting to grips with a range of challenges, including working with Coventry Fire Service, learning foreign languages, developing their digital and creative skills, and of course, enjoying expeditions and residential activities both at home and abroad. Although the Awards have not always been easy, all three agreed that the challenge was worth it and helped to develop them into the young adults they were today, and in Subhaan's case, have helped trailblaze for future cadets, being the first blind cadet to complete his DofE Awards with Warwickshire & Birmingham Wing RAFAC. It was particularly poignant for Subhaan and Patrycja to spend the day with Courtney, as she recently left the Squadron to begin her RAF career, whilst Patrycja and Subhaan move on to careers in accountancy and teaching- and of course, with 2286 and the RAFAC!

Squadron Duke of Edinburgh Officer Flying Officer Amy Seymour, a Gold Award holder herself, was extremely proud of all three, saying "Watching our cadets and staff achieve these Awards always means so much, and never gets old. Courtney, Patrycja and Subhaan have all been with the Squadron since they were young, and watching them grow through the levels of DofE has been a privilege. My particular thanks to the organising staff, to the Squadron community who help support these expeditions, and of course, to the Duke of Edinburgh team who developed this amazing award".
