This week, cadets from 2286 (Coventry Arden) and 163 (Coventry Phoenix) Squadrons enjoyed an exciting evening of teamwork, creativity, and inspiration, led by the Royal Navy Engagement Team.
Cadets get hands-on with the Royal Navy Engagement Team.
The event, hosted and organised by 2286 Squadron, saw 30 cadets working in teams to develop, create, and present innovative items that could be useful to the Royal Navy and RAF. Using MTA equipment, the cadets demonstrated their problem-solving skills and creativity, producing designs that showcased their understanding of practical military needs. The cadets’ final designs included a wheelbarrow stretcher, a recycled wind turbine, an intel remote-control rover, and a delivery vehicle.
Alongside the hands-on activities, the cadets had the invaluable opportunity to discuss careers in the Royal Navy with the visiting team. These conversations provided insights into the diverse roles available and the exciting possibilities a career in the Navy offers.
Final designs awaiting presentation.
Flight Lieutenant Julie Seymour RAFAC, Commanding Officer of 2286 Squadron, said:
"Events like this are an incredible opportunity for our cadets to engage with STEM in a way that mirrors real-world problem-solving and innovation. Through partnerships like these, we actively support the RAFAC’s ASTRA strategy, which is driving a focus on STEM, cyber, and aviation to prepare cadets for the challenges of the modern RAF and beyond. We’re thrilled to have facilitated such a dynamic and inspiring evening.”
Feedback from the cadets was overwhelmingly positive, with many highlighting how much they enjoyed both the creative challenges and the chance to learn directly from experienced professionals.
