On Sunday 2nd February, cadets from 2286 (Coventry Arden) Squadron proudly took part in Warwickshire & Birmingham Wing’s ATC Sunday celebrations at the iconic Coventry Cathedral.
This annual event marks the foundation of the RAF Air Cadets (originally the Air Training Corps) on 5th February 1941, bringing together squadrons from across the Wing for a moment of reflection, gratitude, and celebration.

Commemorating 84 Years of the RAF Air Cadets
ATC Sunday is a key event in the RAFAC calendar, offering cadets the chance to reflect on the organisation’s history and their role within it. Cadets and staff from across Warwickshire & Birmingham Wing gathered for a formal parade and service, honouring 84 years of opportunity, training, and service. Team 2286 stood proudly alongside their peers, reaffirming their commitment to the values of leadership, personal development, and community.
2286 (Coventry Arden) Squadron was well represented, with cadets and staff joining others from across the Wing in the historic setting of Coventry Cathedral. Sgt Cerys Ryan carried the Squadron banner in the Wing banner parade, Sgt George Foster assisted with ushering VIP guests, and Cpl Ameera Bawazir performed on the bell-lyre with the Wing Band—a culmination of her dedication to music training, which also earned her a bronze music badge. The service provided an opportunity to reflect on the RAF Air Cadets' legacy and the incredible experiences it continues to offer young people today.

Coventry Cathedral, a powerful symbol of resilience and renewal following its destruction in World War II, provided a fitting backdrop for the occasion. The setting served as a reminder of the RAF Air Cadets’ deep-rooted connection to the RAF and its heritage.

Marking a Change in Leadership
This year’s ATC Sunday also marked the final major event for Wing Commander Amanda Hobbins, ahead of a new Warwickshire & Birmingham Wing Commander taking post next month. The service was an opportunity to reflect on her leadership and contributions to the Wing.
Speaking about the event, Flight Lieutenant Julie Seymour RAFAC, Officer Commanding 2286 (Coventry Arden) Squadron, said:
"ATC Sunday is always a highlight of the year, bringing us together as a Wing to celebrate what it means to be part of the RAF Air Cadets. Coventry Cathedral is the perfect setting for such an occasion, and I’m immensely proud of the way our cadets represented the squadron today. Whether carrying our banner, playing music, or simply being part of the contingent, every cadet played their part in making this event a success."
