A Wing-First Success: Cyberspace Weekend at 2286 Squadron

This past weekend, 2286 (Coventry Arden) Squadron proudly hosted a ground-breaking event for Warwickshire & Birmingham Wing: the Wing’s first-ever combined Cyberspace training weekend. Conceptualised and organised by 2286, the weekend brought together Bronze Radio and Bronze Cyber training courses, providing cadets and staff with an exciting opportunity to earn qualifications in these vital modern skill sets. With 45 cadets and staff in attendance, the weekend was nothing short of a resounding success.

The Cyberspace Weekend saw:

  • 21 cadets complete their Cyberspace Bronze (Radio) award.

  • 5 staff earn their Blue and Bronze Radio Trainer and Assessor qualification.

  • 10 cadets achieve their Cyberspace Bronze (Cyber) award, with a further award to complete this week due to Wing commitments

  • 5 cadets go even further to attain their Cyberspace Silver (Cyber) qualification.

The courses were made possible through the hard work and dedication of 2286 Squadron staff, with two instructors joining from outside the Squadron. While radio cadets were drawn from across the Wing, the cyber participants (as part of this inaugural course) were all from 2286. Hosting an event of this scale and impact is a reflection to the enthusiasm and professionalism of the Squadron’s team.

Flt Lt Julie Seymour, Wing Radio Officer and Officer Commanding 2286 Squadron, reflected on the success of the weekend: “This event marks a huge milestone for Warwickshire & Birmingham Wing. Bringing together radio and cyber training not only strengthens our cadets' skill sets but also demonstrates the forward-thinking approach of the RAF Air Cadets. I’m incredibly proud of all the cadets and staff who worked so hard to make this weekend such a success.”

The weekend’s achievements further highlight the Squadron and RAFAC's commitment to preparing cadets for the challenges of the modern world, with skills in communication, cyber security, and teamwork at the forefront. The positive feedback from participants is already paving the way for similar events in the future.
